Box Supplies:

2 – 12X12 sheets of cardboard
Transparency sheet clear or hambly watercolor or mulberry paper
Glue
Paint , paint brush
Utility knife
Double sided sticky tape
Sandpaper
Rub-ons , ribbon, large decorative button, ink

Directions :

1.Cut 2 – 7 X 7 inch squares out of cardboard. Trace and cut a heart shape from one of the 7X7 inch squares and set aside. Heart template supplied.

2.Cut 4 – 6 ½ X 1 ½ in rectangles out of cardboard. (label these pieces "6.5") frame for bottom of box.
3.Cut 4 – 6 6/8 X 1 ½ in rectangles out of cardboard. (label these pieces "6.75") frame for top of box.

4.Score all 8 rectangles on “one long edge” and “one short edge” of each rectangle, ½ inch.

If you are using heavy cardboard, you only need to score lightly “once” with your cutter.
DO NOT BEND BACK AND FORTH.ONLY BEND ONCE TO FORM BOX EDGE.

NOTE: VERY IMPORTANT
Make sure all your cuts and score lines are scored on the "same end" of each piece, this is necessary for when you piece your box frame together.

5. With your 4 scored “6.5” rectangles, glue them end to end to form a square. Set aside. ( One scored edge to a straight edge, one scored edge to the another straight edge until all four pieces are connected, join together to form a square).
6.With your 4 scored “6.75” rectangles, glue all your short end edges, end to end to form a square.
Set aside.

7.Glue and center your “6.5” rectangles to the bottom of your 7 X 7 inch squares. Let dry.
8. Glue and center your “6.75” rectangles to the heart shaped 7 X 7 inch square. Let dry.

9.Paint your box, set aside to dry.
10.Cut your transparency into a 6 1/4 X 6 1/4 inch square, adhere rub-on’s or embellish into desired design!

11.Put double side sticky tape on your transparency close to the outside egde as possible, the part that will be facing out and attach to the backside of the heart shaped lid.
12.Ink your box edges.
13.Add ribbon, buttons, rub-ons to the outside of your box as desired.
14.The box can be lined with patterned paper, felt or tissue paper.

Valentine Template

Here is the link to the Valentine Template that you can use to create your projects.

Print one, print many, have fun using different colored cardstock.

If you have problems uploading this, just let me know I can send this as an email to you as well.

Use standard 8.5X11 paper. Right click on the image below and save it to your own file for printing.

I created a few techniques to embellish your box. And have done a couple of boxes in different ways to show you just how versatile this box can be.

Some ideas to pump up your box!
- "Before" attaching your lid frame, sew the edges of the insert (hambly) to the heart egde.
- use mulberry paper
- cut flowers or squares instead of a heart.
- scallop edge your 7X7 inch squares
